Irene Marshall of Buncombe, Illinois , July 2, 1954 – May 23, 2017

Mrs. Irene Marshall, age 62 of Buncombe, died at 2:17 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her home. She was born July 2, 1954 in Anna, the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Ann (Arnold) Woods. She married Roy L. Marshall in Phoenix, AZ.

        Irene is survived by her husband, Roy L. Marshall of Buncombe; son, Terry (Shelley) Marshall of Anna; daughter, Rebecca (Roger) Seyer of Scott City, MO; seven grandchildren; father, Lawrence Woods of Anna; brother, Larry Woods of Murphysboro; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother.

        Irene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna.

        A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Hillary Rae Vega of Anna, Illinois, November 4, 1972 – May 15, 2017

         Hillary Rae Vega, age 44 of Anna, died Monday, May 15, 2017 in the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.  She was born November 4, 1972 in Marion, the daughter of Terry and Janie Carlene (Rendleman) Sichling.  Hillary later married Alberto “Al” Vega.

          Hillary is survived by her loving husband, Alberto “Al” Vega of Anna; mother and step father, Carlene (Gary) Berg of Plant City, FL; two step sons, Michael Alan (Sharon) Vega of Plano, TX, Anthony Brandon Vega of Richardson, TX; one step grandson, Deklan Vega; one sister, Heather (Justin) Zimmerman of Paducah, KY; nephews, other relatives and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Sichling.

          Memorial services for Hillary Rae Vega will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in the Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness in Marion with speaker, Gary Berg. 

 

Harry M. Verble of Anna, Illinois, September 11, 1929 – May 15, 2017

Mr. Harry M. Verble age 87 of Anna, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.  He was born September 11, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Arlie and Maud (Helton) Verble.  He married Jewel Pauline Slone on January 20, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2005.

          Harry is survived by his son, Terry (Christie) Verble of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Kevin (Brandy) Verble of Goreville, Callie (Caleb) Baird of Metropolis; two great grandchildren, Logan Verble and Addison Baird; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jewel Pauline (Slone) Verble; seven brothers and sisters.

          Harry retired from Amax Coal Company as a mechanic. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. 

          Funeral services for Mr. Harry M. Verble will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home of Anna with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Starr Bolton of Anna, Illinois, January 8, 1955 – May 14, 2017

      Starr Bolton, age 62 of Anna, died at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017 in the Integrity Healthcare in Anna.  She was born January 8, 1955 in Pontiac MI, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Holdman) Stott.

        Starr is survived by her children, Jesse Gerhardt of Clarkston, MI, Richard Bolton of Anna and Trisha Bolton of Cadiz, KY; five grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Stott of Holly, MI; other relatives and many friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Raf Dahlbeck; one grandson, Andrew Gerhardt; one brother, Mark Humphrey.

        There will be a memorial service held at a later date.  Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home of Anna in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Margaret F. Newton, age 84 of Anna, entered into eternal life Friday, May 12, 2017 at her granddaughter’s home surrounded by her family. She was born July 4, 1932 in Cairo, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Willard) Smith. She married James I. Newton on May 8, 1948 in Piggott, AR. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2009.

       Margaret is survived by her children, Marilyn Kay Newton of Anna, James Leroy (Linda) Newton of Glendora, CA and Cathy Cobb of Anna; nine grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Tim Sugget of Bloomfield, MO; four sisters, Helen Jo Lytle of Manteno, Nancy Guerrero of Pueblo West, CO, Sue Henderson of Memphis, TN and Pokey Smith of Cairo; many other relatives and friends. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James I. Newton; granddaughter, Tracey Lynn Boyer; great-grandson, Thomas Matthew Genter; brothers, Buddy Smith, Bob Smith, Herb Smith and Joe Smith; sister, Myrtle Wathens.

       Margaret started her family in Jonesboro then migrated to East St. Louis for several years.  Later, she settled in Elgin for over thirty years and the she retired in Anna.  She worked several jobs, but most of all she was a loving wife and mother.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Anna Moose Lodge. She loved her family more than anything, and her grandchildren could do no wrong in her eyes.

       This day we will not mourn her death, but celebrate her life with many of those whose lives she touched.

       Funeral services for Margaret F. Newton will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Pastor Earnie Newton officiating. Violet M Dillow of Jonesboro, Illinois, July 25, 1917 – May 6, 2017

Mrs. Violet M. Dillow, age 99 of Jonesboro, died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Integrity Healthcare in Anna. She was born July 25, 1917 in Mill Creek, the daughter of William R. and Mary (Hileman) Fink. She married Harold Dillow on September 12, 1936 in Buncombe. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2005.

        Violet is survived by her son, Gene (Kathern) Dillow of Jonesboro; daughter, Patricia (Larry) McIntosh of Anna; four grandchildren, Shelly Dillow, Lane Dillow, Gary Dillow, and Kim (Nathan) Menees; four great-grandchildren, Cali Dillow, Hallee Menees, Alayna Menees, and Luke Menees; one great-great-grandchild, Avery; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Dillow; and three brothers, Harold Fink, Leroy Fink and Doyle Fink.

        Violet was a member of the  First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for many years. She retired from Choate Mental Health after working thirty years as a Mental Health Technician. She was very proud of her career as a Mental Health Technician and enjoyed caring for her patients.

        Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Violet M. Dillow will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the St. Johns Cemetery in Dongola with Bill Littrell officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the Cemetery. Interment will be in the St. Johns Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Connie Jo Wills of Wolf Lake, Illinois, July 27, 1956 – May 7, 2017

Mrs. Connie Jo Wills, age 60 of Wolf Lake, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017 at her home. She was born July 27, 1956 in Anna, the daughter of Gene and Doris Jean (West) Williams. She married the love of her life, Kerry Ray Wills on September 12, 1986 in Wolf Lake. They renewed their vows after twenty five years together in Branson, MO.

       Connie is survived by her loving husband of thirty years, Kerry Wills of Wolf Lake; two daughters, Kelli Carmack of Wolf Lake, Kristi Henson of Anna; two sons, Kyle Wills of Wolf Lake, Nathan Wills of McClure; she was “Nonnie” to fifteen grandchildren who were the joy of her life, Kelsi, Kadin, and Keaton Carmack, Landon, Pacey, and Mason McCarver, Matthew, Keri, and Ashlin Wills, Kannen, Dryden, and Brody Wills, Maci Wills, Chelsi and Chali Phelps; three sisters, Debbie and Gary Hileman of Grand Tower, Vicki and Rodney Reynolds of Wolf Lake, Lana and Rick Livesay of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-daughter, Billi Staci Wills; and one sister, Linda Ford.

       Connie was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Wolf Lake. She dearly loved spending time with all her grandchildren out in her pool, trips with her sisters and making memories with the love of her life and best friend, Kerry. Connie led a very active lifestyle until the last couple years when her health declined.

       Funeral services for Mrs. Connie Jo Wills will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor Peggy Camp officiating. Mary Ann Harvick of Mesa, AZ, September 27, 1922 – April 30, 2017

Ann Harvick, age 94 of Mesa Arizona, formerly of Anna, died at 9:43 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at her son’s home in Arizona.  She was born September 27, 1922 in McClure, daughter of Frank and Lucille (Moore) Crissip.  She married Harvalee D. Harvick on January 3, 1946 in Metropolis.

        Ann is survived by her loving husband, Harvalee D. Harvick of Mesa, AZ; son, John Mark (Marla) Harvick of Mesa, AZ; two grandsons, Shawn Harvick of Maryland Heights, MO and David (Allie) Harvick of Nashville, TN; two great grandchildren, Preston Harvick of Nashville, TN and Jaydn Richardson of Maryland Heights, MO; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas Crissip; five sisters, Pauline Frogg, Louise Mayer, Catherine Goettyn, Mildred “Judy” Crissip and Lucille “Susie” Patton.

        Ann loved to sew and made many quilts that will be passed down through the generations.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Anna and as a recent member of the Desert Sand Church of Christ in Mesa, AZ.

        Funeral services for Ann Harvick will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home of Anna with Brian McAlister officiating.  Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Dongola.  Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017 until the service hour at 12:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ in Anna or Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Clara M. Bowie of Herrin, Illinois, October 27, 1934 – April 26, 2017

 

Clara Bowie, age 82 of Carbondale, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Herrin.  She was born October 27, 1934 in Pisgah, MD, daughter of Richard and Jenny Bowie. 

 

          Clara is survived by her daughters, Lydia (Arthur) Hazel of Makanda, Hope (Nathan) Silkwood of Carbondale; six grandchildren, Jessica Thomas, Sarah Dreppard, Sherry Taylor, Jim Ratcliffe, Tony Hazel and Christy Hazel; three great grandchildren, Bella Thomas, Addison Thomas and Alyssa Phelps; one sister, Joan (Glen) Dichiera of Baltimore, MD, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters. 

 

          Due to her increased vision loss from Retinitis Pigmentosa, she entered the Baltimore Maryland School for the blind in 1947 and graduated in 1953.

 

          Due to the generosity of the Indian Head, MD Lions Club, she was able to attend the State Teachers College of Towson, MD, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in June of 1957, the first of her family to obtain a higher education.  She then worked as a Rehabilitation Teacher for the blind with the Illinois Department of Human Services, from which she resigned in 1958 upon marring Alvin Roberts of Carbondale.  She spent the next 18 years as a homemaker, after which she returned to the workforce in a variety of occupations, including Food Service Manager in Springfield, Management Trainor in Chicago, IRS information Specialist in Chicago, salesperson for Ann Morris Enterprises in Chicago, and Itinerant Teacher of Braille for the Center for Independent Living in Carbondale.       During retirement, Clara became an accomplished writer, self-publishing books of poetry and personal memoirs, and free lancing as a columnist for various publications on health issues.          

 

          Clara committed her life to Christ at the age of 10, to whom she was ever faithful.  She offered her beautiful singing voice in service to His church from that time forward. Up to her last months in the nursing home, where she sang at the services there and for her roommates to help soothe their troubles during the night.  Her greatest desire was to give glory to God for the sake of others in all that she did.  Clara was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden.

 

          Funeral Mass for Clara M. Bowie will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Uriel Salamanca officiating.  Interment will be in the Rowan Cemetery in Makanda.  Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.  The rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.  Memorials may be made to the Lions Club.  Envelopes will be available at the church and the funeral home.

Pearl Jane Harvell of Carbondale, Illiinois, March 31, 1920 – April 27, 2017

           Pearl Jane Harvell, age 97 of rural Carbondale, formerly of Anna Jonesboro, died at 12:35 p.m.  Thursday, April 27, 2017 in her home.  She was born March 31, 1920 in Elco the daughter of Ira James and Grace Ellen (Shaffer) Bridges.  She married Thomas Noble Harvell on December 10, 1936 in Tamms. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1987.

          Pearl is survived by her children, Dale (Dorothy) Harvell of Jonesboro, Wilma “Jackie” Hoyle of Anna, Melvin (Clara) Harvell of Jonesboro, Kimberly (Curt) Guetersloh of Carbondale; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and one on the way; lifelong friend, Lesley “Buz” Prather; furry companion, Clemmie.; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Noble Harvell; son, Norman Douglas Harvell; three brothers and four sisters.

          Pearl was a member of the Elco Baptist Church.  She loved cooking and spending time with her family.  Her family said her chicken and dumplings will be greatly missed.
