Doris "Janie" Walter Obituary

Doris “Janie” Walter age 91 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the Jonesboro Rehab and Nursing Center in Jonesboro. She was born April 29, 1932 in Lawrence County, IL, the daughter of Benefield and Anna (Culp) Mallette. She married Herman “Shady” Walter on March 17, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1995.

Janie is survived by her son, Larry (Debra) Walter of Anna; niece, Denise (Ronnie) Stallings of Metropolis; other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman “Shady” Walter and two aunts, Flossie Hess an Marie Everingham.

Janie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro for many years. She retired from the Gazette Democrat where she worked as a proofreader and bookkeeper.

There will be no formal services. Inurnment will be in the Big Ridge Cemetery in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Medical Center Volunteer Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
